Human Settlements Minister Tokyo Sexwale has established a new regulatory authority to stimulate the amount of rental accommodation available to people in low income groups.

The Social Housing Regulatory Authority (SHRA) was inaugurated by Minister Sexwale in Cape Town today, 26 August 2010.

The Department of Human Settlements is intensifying its crackdown on dodgy housing contractors and has drawn up a shortlist of 20 problematic housing projects with a total value of R2 billion which are currently under investigation.
