Deeper integration and more rapid economic growth in Africa and the developing world generally carries with it extensive ... [highlighted result]

T Manuel: Centre for Education in Economics and Finance (CEEF) fundraising dinner

There are four possibilities that present themselves * as with Coyote's Road Runner, the global economy (and not merely that of the United State of America (USA) went over the cliff, into the canyon where below were these uncharted waters * we were actually flying past, rapidly lost altitude and crash-landed in these hostile, uncharted waters * we lost direction, could not navigate our way through anything, couldn't read the instruments and ended up in these awful uncharted waters * ... T Manuel: Memorial service for Liz Abrahams

Nana and Ray Alexander, Nana and Oscar Mpetha, Nana and Elizabeth Mofokeng, Nana and Frank Marquad, Nana and Jan Theron ' the list is endless but the message the same: non-racialism could never be some distant horizon. The full time organisers of the Food and Canning Workers Union could expect to be paid what the workers they organised were paid. The people have taught Nana the infinite and Nana leaves that wisdom to us - a durable legacy and an example that must be followed. [highlighted result]

T Manuel: Doha conference

Six and a half years ago I had the privilege of working with Michel Camdessus in a similar role with respect to the Monterrey Conference. When we prepared for the Monterrey Conference we did so under the shadow of 09/11. As the dust settled, world leaders were driven forward. President Sarkozy reminded us again when he addressed us this morning that we cannot build the world of the 21st century with the institutions of the 20th century. [highlighted result]

T Manuel: Transcript of FinMark Conference

On that day, there was a co-ordinated response by the European central bank and the United State (US) Fed who together had to pump $90 billion of liquidity into the markets that day. The banks bought this and between originators and banks with ratings agencies who treated this frequently, these collateralised debt obligations, treated it as AAA credit and the banks bought it and the banks knew that included in what they were buying was actually pretty toxic stuff. Rich countries between them ... [highlighted result]

T Manuel: World economy crisis

One of the great sources of ballast in the world economy has been the rapid economic growth of China, which has contributed on average 20 percent of world growth in the last 5 years. Chinese GDP growth slowed to 9.0 percent in the third quarter 2008 from 11,9 percent in 2007 and 11,6 percent in 2006. These commitments will help to raise the economy's growth rate in the present as investment spending is maintained, and in the future contribute to rising potential growth of the economy. T Manuel on death of Kwadwo Baah-Wiredu

I was deeply shocked and saddened by the passing away of Minister Kwadwo Baah-Wiredu. He was among the founding ministers who played a key role in establishing the Collaborative Africa Budget Reform Initiative as an African-owned network of senior budget officials. Minister Baah-Wiredu was passionate about the art of the Finance Minister, his work was premised on the unshakeable belief in the success of democracy in Ghana and he lived as a proud and unapologetic Pan-Africanist. Empowerment, in turn, is about giving people a stake in democracy, in energising democracy. The first is the role of people and communities in energising democracy.
